The Covid-19 Delta variety has shown rapid expansion in the Colombo District in the last month.

Accordingly, the Delta variety, which had shown a prevalence of approximately 19.3% in the first week of last month, has rapidly expanded to more than 75% by the last week of that month.

This was stated by Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, Head, The Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine, Faculty ofMedical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura in a Twitter message.

This has been confirmed by PCR tests conducted in the university laboratories.
